Uggh Uggh Uggh

Little Miss Uggh Uggh Uggh
"What's the problem, folks??  Life is a lot simpler when it's mono-syllabic! ;-)

Erin is a pretty late talker. At 1 year, 7 months old, her main form of communciation is still "Uggh Uggh Ugg".  Luckily, she can say  "Up Down".  That's about the only thing she can say clearly.  (in the correct context and usually with a big smile!).

And a few more unclear words :  "Duck",   "Ish" (for fish),  "Ma/ Mah"  (but not in the context of food or calling anyone).

She just doesn't seem to be interested in talking. When I tell her, "say Mah Mee", she happily points to me and says "Ughh Ughh", proud that she knows who "Mah Mee" is.  So I tried with "say Dah dee" instead.  Then she says "Ughh Ughh" and points to whichever direction she thinks daddy is.  Oops!

My dad has also been dilligently trying to get her to repeat words after him daily. No success yet.  She mainly goes "Uggh Uggh Uggh" and points to whatever object she is referring to or pulls our hand to wherever she wants to go.

Ah well..... at least she can say "Up Down" clearly so I am not particularly worried.  I like the way hubby puts it though - the longer Erin takes to talk, the longer she is still officially our little baby.  Awwww !!!  :-)

Sewing Post #4 - Pants

For my next sewing project, I wanted to tackle Pants.

Googled and found a simple tutorial :

I wanted to make a pair of simple home shorts for myself. Ended up with this :

                                                                My first pair of Pants

Flop because :   Wayyyyyy too small for me! I can pretty much put in ONE leg only through the waistband   ;-)

Why?  I used an old pair of shorts as a measurement sample.
Mistake #1 : After I measured, I "smartly" decided to use the width instead of the length of the cloth (save some cloth) since the width was short by "only" 1 inch.
Mistake #2 - my sample shorts was made of stretchy material. The cloth I chose for this project was NOT.

And I probably gave more seam allowance than necessary. So, I ended up with a pair of totally unusable pants. But still......I won't say it was a total flop. Ignoring the size problem, I was still pleased that I actually managed to sew a pair of pants!!  Yay, it actually looked like one!!
I was initially worried that I might sew the pant legs shut or get the crotch area totally wrong or something.

Of course after that, I just HAD to try again. Came up with this -

My second pair of pants

One leg shorter than the other. But what the heck.....I got the size right this time!!  Check out Elyssa in her new pyjamas pants. Yay!!

Oh, and I also made another pair of home shorts for myself. Turned out I still have measuring problems cos this one turned out too big! But big is better than small. Yes, this pair makes my butt look super huge, but it IS rather comfy to lounge around at home in.  ;-)

My third pair of pants

So, that's my pants story to-date. I want to make more, but for now, there's so many other projects to embark on.

Back to School 2013

Oops....late, late. Wanted to write about this since last week but have been busy at work.

But anyway just a short entry to say that Elyssa is now back in school. On the second last week of December, I bought her a new school bag. (RM25 for a Barbie princess bag in Parkson. I suspect it was wrongly labelled. he he!!) Since that day, she kept bugging me about when school will restart.

So, on 2nd Jan 2013, she was all smiles when she could finally go to school again.

 In School Compound

In Her Classroom

Similar to her first year, no fuss and no tears at all when it was time for me to leave her class. I anticipated that and didn't even bother taking any time off from work ;)

First day of school (Weds) was rather uneventful. No class on Thursday cos it was orientation day for the 3 and 4 year olds. I expected Friday to be uneventful as well but I got a big shock when her class teacher called me up at 11.30am saying that she was the only one left in her class bcos school
already dismissed since 10.30am. Big, big OOOOPPSS! I thought it was back to the normal 12.30pm dismissal. Luckily, her teacher said she was a good girl - drank water, went to toilet, read book quietly when she was told to do so.

Ke ke...so by the first week of school, her class teacher now knows her name and that she has a blur-blur mummy!!!

Bye Bye 2012, Hello 2013!

Happy New Year!!!
2013 already. I think it still hasn’t really sunk in that it’s a new year yet.

We were pretty busy the last few days of the year – hosted a Housewarming/Christmas/New Year’s Day BBQ at our place on Dec 29th and then another round on Dec 31st. (plus another round yesterday on Jan 5th).

Anyway, I feel like I can't properly usher in the New Year without saying bye bye to 2012. And my way of saying bye bye is to reflect on 2012.

So here goes -

What happened in 2012 (in no particular order) :

1.      Elyssa started kindy for the first time. No fuss, no tears at all on her first day. I was so proud of my brave little girl. She continued loving school for the whole year.

2.      I achieved my stretched target of breastfeeding baby Erin until she turned one year old. Yay!

3.   Picked up sewing! Something totally unexpected. I am totally in love with it now. I just find it so, so satisfying.

4    Continued baking passion. Waned a bit as sewing took centrestage towards the end of the year, but the fire still there J

5.       Took a 45 day Healthpointe diet around September to loose my post baby fat. Lost about 4kg. I’ve gained back about 0.8kg (blame it on year end feasting!) so need to be careful about that.

6.       Went for a holiday in Australia for the very first time.

7.       Braved myself to finally do LASIK surgery on my eyes in mid December. Love being able to see the clock when I wake up in the morning! Bye Bye contact lenses and spectacles.....

8.       Moved to new house in early August. Reno issues (especially leaking roof and plumbing related issues) only got resolved very recently. Yikes. Not going to move again for a looooong time.

9.       Managed to “kick” Elyssa to sleep in her new room  J

10.   I'm sure there's a lot more, but can't think of it at the top of my head now. But of course, the main joy (and also headache!) for the year was watching my 2 princesses grow up.

My girls in Feb 2012

My girls in December 2012
They can play (and fight) together more often now :-)

So, was 2012 a great year? You bet it was !!

Let's hope that 2013 will be even greater. Bring it on 2013 !  :-)

Little Miss Sneaky

Elyssa can be such a sneaky / cunning little girl sometimes.
3 recent scenarios:

Scenario 1 – Ipad
She loves watching utube on the Ipad. One day, she was watching Barbie – Princess and the Popstar music video.

Me :  When you finish this video, time to stop ok?
Elyssa : OK!

BUT once the video clip reached almost the end, she used her finger to slide the slider to almost the beginning of the video so could watch again. She did this OVER and OVER.

Me : Elyssa!!  Time to stop!
Elyssa :  But video not yet finish.
Me : ????!!!!!

Scenario 2 – Time
I was trying to force her to nap in the afternoon. She kept coming into my room every 5 minutes saying she “finish sleeping already”

Me :  You haven’t even slept at all yet. You must sleep until 4 o clock.
Elyssa : OK!

5 minutes later (only 3pm)

Elyssa :  I wake up already.  4 o clock now.
Me : Not yet, see it’s only 3 o clock.
Elyssa :  But that’s YOUR clock.  MY clock is already 4 clock.   You come and see :

 Me : ??????!!!!!!

 Scenario 3 – Hair Cut
Few months ago, my mum gave a hair cut to all the kids.

Elyssa : Ah Mah, next time I don’t want you to cut hair for me.  Other people always say “Not Nice” wan.
Ah Mah : ok lor.

The next round of hair cut:

Elyssa : Ah Mah, I want you to cut my hair.
Ah Mah :  Eh, I thought you said don’t want?  You said not nice wat.
Elyssa : No.  Ah Mah, I said Other People say not nice.  But I didn’t say not nice. I say nice. Ah Mah cut for me ok?
Ah Mah : ?????!!!!!

There are other scenarios as well, where she goes around the issue/ forbidden item. Or she will talk and talk to justify her actions.

Like when I scolded her for not sharing her new toy. (unacceptable behavior). I threaten to never buy new toys for her again bla bla bla.  She talked and talked and finally explained that she didn’t want to share the toy on the first day.  She said after the first day, she will happily share with others. (well, this doesn’t sound so unacceptable eh?)

All this is sometimes annoying especially when just talks and talks until she comes out with a good reason. But hubby said at least we know this girl can survive in the sneaky corporate world !

2012 Big Bad Wolf Sale

We braved the Big Bad Wolf Sale 2 weekends ago.

Reached there around 7pm on the first Saturday of the sale. It took quite a while to reach place (when we were almost there, there was a Rela policeman blocking entry to the sliproad. He just asked us to "u-turn kat Petronas" but there were no signs at all when we reached Petronas. Blindly followed a few cars and thankfully they were going to the same place. Phew!)

Once there, we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too crowded -

We decided to drop Erin off at the play area with our maid (Elyssa was in Singapore that weekend). Not cheap at RM10 per hour. Erin LOVED it though!!  I checked in on her a few times and she was just so engrossed with the play equipment.

Without any kids tagging along, we could shop in peace. Yay!!

Graphic Novels (fancy name for comics!). Hubby's FAVOURITE section.
I think about RM20 each but he said it's sooo cheap cos normally it can go up to RM100.

The stroller came in handy  :-)

I didn't really go crazy like previous years since I'ld rather use my precious free time to sew rather than to read. And Elyssa's book cabinet is already full of lovely books bought previously. (Popular Warehouse Sale, Big Bookshop Warehouse Sale, Big Bad Wolf Sale, good deals from Book Excess etc etc). Why do I even bother going to this sale???  Err....kiasu I suppose since everyone also went. He he.

Mummy, buy this book for me ok?
Easter Egg Board Book for only RM3  :-)

Not really clear from the picture above, but the red cones shows the empty payment section. We didn't even had to queue at all. My colleague exclaimed in envy when I showed him the photo.  Why? Cos he went on Friday night around 11pm and had to queue up more than 1.5 hours to pay!!! He said the queue was from the payment counters right up to the END of the huge hall. At around 3+am onwards, no one could even browse for books cos the standing area was occupied by people in the queue. Yikes.  Somemore, just when it was his turn, all the credit card terminals became offline. Double Yikes!

ps: Dress looks familiar?  Yup, that's the dress I made for Erin. She refused to take off the dress after I tried it on for her that morning.    :-)

Sewing Project #7

Another sewing project to update :)

Dress # 2 for Erin

Back View of Dress

OMG....... I am pretty pleased with myself!!! Yay Yay.  *dance around in glee*
Even hubby couldn't quite believe I made this!

Material is from my previous purchase in Kamdar. RM8+ per metre for the flowery fabric and RM4+ per metre for the plan red fabric. I loved how the colour combination turned out. So bright and cheery :)

I'm glad Erin liked it too.  She willingly changed into this dress but when I wanted to take it out later  (cos haven't even washed the fabric yet) she screamed in protest.  Ke ke.

"Mummy, enough photos already.  Time to play ball"

 Easy Button Collar
Good for beginner like me since I don't know how to sew zips yet.

I never knew sewing could be so satisfying!! These days, I can hardly wait for both girls to sleep so I can run to my little sewing corner. That's usually around 10pm and I get to squeeze in just over an hour of sewing time on a normal week day. A couple more on weekends but usually there's other stuff going on. If only there's more hours in a day!
